Interstate Hotels and Resorts
Russ Cox currently serves as Executive Vice President of Operations for Interstate Hotels and Resorts, heading up their west coast office in Newport Beach. Currently Russ oversees approximately 65 hotels with the vast majority located in California.
Prior to joining Interstate Hotels and Resorts Russ served as the Chief Operating Officer for Rim Hospitality for a period of nine years until Rim was acquired by Interstate in July 2014. During his nine-year tenure with Rim he played a major role in growing the company from 18 select service hotels to over 90 properties, including several high-profile full-service hotels.
Russ’ hotel career began in 1976 when he joined Red Lion Hotels and Inns as a Maître d’ at the Red Lion Spokane. Within less than two years he became the general manager of the Red Lion Inn located in Richland, WA. During his fifteen years with Red Lion he managed several of the company’s most prominent properties including two hotels in California that are now flagged as the Doubletree San Jose and Hilton Costa Mesa, a property he opened in 1987.
After leaving Red Lion in 1990 Russ worked for fourteen years for a privately held collection of independent hotels. He managed the former Grand Hotel in Anaheim, the Dream Inn Santa Cruz and what is now the Sheraton Park Anaheim Resort Hotel. He currently serves on the CH&LA board of directors and has served previously on the AH&LA board of directors.
Russ lives in the City of Orange, is married and has a daughter attending the University of Oregon.
