What is the referendum?

The Summer 2024 referendum allows the state’s travel businesses to elect and re-elect commissioners to represent the accommodations, attractions, restaurants/retail and passenger car rental tourism segments. The commissioners for consideration are listed on the homepage.

What is the timeline for voting?

  • Ballots due - May 22, 2024
  • Results Certification - June 11,  2024
  • Announcement Letter - June 14, 2024

Who gets to vote?

Businesses that have paid their assessments and any fines or late fees up through and including assessments that were due in July 2022 will be eligible to vote in the referendum. Any outstanding assessment fees for that period must be paid by April 1, 2024, to participate in the referendum vote.

How do I vote?

Eligible voters will receive a ballot in the mail and an email from TrueBallot, a third-party election firm. The paper ballot can be sent back or a vote can be cast online. You will need your pin number to vote online; it can be found on the ballot or in the email sent to you in April. If you no longer have your pin number, please contact vote@visitcalifornia.com for assistance.

Who receives a ballot?

A ballot is issued to an assessed business with no outstanding balances by July 2022. The ballot is addressed to the voter identified by the business or generically to Assessed Business Partner when no contact has been identified.
